For once the subject is sort of relevant, because this post is going to be about the 20th Anniversary Artbook (I'm really late to the party but um) and what little of the Japanese in it I actually understand, which is barely anything, really, because I don't speak Japanese lol - actually, I'm surprised nobody has attempted to translate much of it yetalso I would pay somebody to translate the entire book omg
First of all, there's a small amount of new art at the start of the book, almost all of which has been uploaded to this tumblr before (the only thing missing is a picture of Yuria, I think?), so just in case there's somebody out there who hasn't seen the artbook-exclusive stuff, I'll link it here:

RD!Ike, transformed Ranulf, Soren (who doesn't seem to be wearing pants), Shiida, Marth (... the pantsless version), Lakche, Skasaher, Celice

In addition to this, there's some concept art at the end of the Tellius section (link because why not!). The text on the page mentions that the concept art was drawn for the games' CG scenes which is a bit odd considering Elincia's PoR battle outfit never actually appears in a CG movie? Either way, it'd make sense for the rest of the characters to have similar concept art, since it'd be hard to make 3D models for them otherwise. :D
The text next to Ike mentions how he keeps smaller accessories and a "small sword" which really looks more like a knife than anything else on his thigh; the text next to Soren says that "the timid Soren drawing on the lower right is very cute. Perhaps Ike scolded him..." so basically what I'm getting from that is that Ike is a jerk >:| but it's ok Ike, I still like you
Some other notes on the Tellius section:
- I made a post about this on tumblr yesterday, but the text under Kyza's name mentions that he/(she?) has "the body of a man and the spirit of a woman?", so I think it's possible Kyza was intended to be a transgender character. (In the Japanese version, Kyza apparently also uses the feminine pronoun "atashi" to refer to him/herself according to this SF post, which isn't noticeable in the English version since English as a language doesn't have those kinds of gendered pronouns.)
- Heather's profile mentions that she "has an extra gentle disposition towards girls" (or something like that, I'm unsure). I'd like to translate the entire profile, except I probably couldn't because my Japanese isn't good enough ;A;
- Jill's ending note mentions that she is "bound to Haar in the epilogue if they have an A support", so I'd say that makes it a little more obvious as to who the "husband" her ending refers to is?
Speaking of ending notes, if a character has a paired ending with another character, there will be a green box with the header "If..." below their profiles, which explains what happens in their paired endings and comments on them. ... I kind of wish I actually understood the comments in question but I don't whoops
The Magvel section has art of Mansel and Morva, which I haven't seen before! It's not in Serenes Forest's Gallery section for FE8, at least, but I'm still not entirely sure if their official art is artbook-exclusive or not. (If it is, I think I'll try snapping some photos of it because unreleased offical art sort of bugs me.)
If my Japanese ever gets good enough for me to actually understand the text in this book, I think I'm going to prioritize translating the profiles for the new RD characters since I'm curious about whether they might give hints about their personalities or not! So now I just have to spend a few years studying Japanese yaaay except I don't really want to because Kanji are pretty annoying

In any case, Tellius is like...the paradise of sexual minorities. I love that. XD
ps. Do I have to live with the knowledge that Soren goes to brood in a corner like a puppy everytime Ike acts like a jerk? because Ike is often a jerk. Soren's life is hard. XD

Date: 2011-09-28 06:32 pm (UTC)Hmm, the particular line where Kyza uses "atashi" is apparently in one of his support conversations with Ranulf, though, so I'd guess you'd have to check those somehow to be sure? ... now I'm starting to wonder if there's an Italian script for RD somewhere! But um, well. I really hope NoA didn't censor it. ;A;
And yes! Tellius seems to have quite a few LGBT-characters ♥
Aww poor Soren ;_; apparently being scolded by Ike causes him to ~brood~ while doodling silly things on the ground? (... but then again, I can only really recall two times when Ike calls Soren out on his rudeness, and he apologized for it the first time so)
Actually, if you look closely, it sort of looks like he's writing "999". Obviously we need a 999/FE crossover now! :D

What counts as a paired ending? I mean, Haar and Jill obviously have one and it's not like it's stated outright though.

Date: 2011-09-29 04:40 pm (UTC)But yes, the art is very pretty! Now I'm kind of curious as to whether the rest of Heather's profile has any more hints on her character or not. If I ever have some more time to waste, I might try to see if I can translate something else. :D
A paired ending is basically any ending which changes when two characters reach an A support, I guess? So Ike has paired endings with Soren or Ranulf, whereas Mist has one with Boyd, etc.
