GTS Negotiations
Mar. 9th, 2011 09:55 pmI've beaten the Elite Four, but I'd like to wait before I post anything about that (and there's still Cynthia left for me to defeat, so). Instead, I'll rant about the GTS Negotiations feature! I decided I'd distribute 8 newly hatched Snivys (... Snivies?).
In case someone who isn't me decided to read this journalpfff like that would ever happen, here's how it works. You get to pick the level of pokémon you'd like to trade (the choices being any level, from 1 to 49, and presumably 50 to 100, though I didn't actually check if there were any other choices), then one of four words which describes the pokémon you want, and finally a word to describe the pokémon you're willing to trade away. The system is very limited - the only words you can pick are cool, cute, scary and strange, or if you can't be bothered to choose, any kind. After choosing, the game matches you up with a random person whose requirements match yours.
The trading takes place in real-time. You get to pick up to three pokémon from your party or first box to showcase to the other trainer. Your only means of communication are by way of four emoticons: a smiling face, a frowning/sad face, a heart, and an exclamation mark. So if you attempt to trade something the other person doesn't want, he/she/it will probably respond with a bunch of frowny faces. Followed by some exclamation marks.
I decided to be generous and breed eight Snivies for the sole purpose of trading them away. They were also equipped with a gift of sorts, some valuable items I picked from my inventory (mostly evolution stones, though one of them had a Max Revive). Aaand I also decided to give them silly nicknames! (I like dumb nicknames. I just can't help it.) In order, their names were:
The trading went pretty well, except for when I was attempting to trade them away to people who already picked Snivy as their starter. They didn't seem to want any more of them and made frowny faces at me, so I responded by frowning back at them because I don't have any other good pokémon to trade. Sorry!
The people who did accept seemed pretty happy. There were two in particular who stood out, as they practically showered me with smiling faces and hearts. D'awww. Hopefully they'll find the Smug brothers useful. While the majority of the traders didn't have much to offer, which makes perfect sense since the games were only recently released outside of Japan, some actually traded fairly rare pokémon for my Snivies - so I managed to snag a japanese Aerodactyl and a japanese Charmander. However, I traded them both shortly after getting them to trainers who had apparently picked Snivy as their starters, because otherwise I'd have felt kind of bad for not having any pokémon to trade. And being forced to be frowned at. Being frowned at is no fun.
Oh, and another thing! One of the traders was japanese. According to the counter, he had traded a total of 1242 times. 1242. I'm not sure if I should be impressed or scared. Still, he gave me an Eelektrik for my Snivy, so I suppose he must have been a pretty cool guy. And he flashed a Simipour holding a "Thanks Mail" after the trade. Cute idea!
